1. Set ground rules up front.
Define the behaviors, values and communication policies you want your team to live by. Then be sure everyone is aware of them.
2. Involve your team in hiring new members.
Allow team members to have a say in who is hired and they will go out of their way to integrate those people into the team.
3. Meet regularly with each team member.
Meet monthly or quarterly to identify employees’ needs and desires. Also ask them about ideas for the future of the company.
4. Reward your entire team.
Perks often go farther than pay increases. Consider providing time off, company dinners, and team retreats.
5. Remember the Pareto Principal.
Keep an eye out for the 20% of your employees who provide 80% of the results and go out of your way to recognize and reward them.
